Keys on Offense
Senior quarterback Austin Mayfield returns following a season where he nearly accounted for 1,000-yards of total offense (512 passing, 424 rushing). The loss of featured runner Austyn Dozier will leave a void in the Potters’ lineup this Fall. He ran for a team-high 934 yards (5.3 ypc) and 7 touchdowns. Junior Kyle Walker displayed a knack for the big play in limited action as a sophomore. Walker carried the ball for a 7.3 yard per attempt average (19 carries, 138 yards) while hauling in 3 passes for 93 yards (31.0 yard per reception). Seniors Dakota Ice (6 catches, 52 yards) and Zach Gill (5 catches, 57 yards) both will be back this Fall.

Keys on Defense
Senior defensive linemen Freddie Plum (45 tackles) and David Locke (36 tackles) each had 3 sacks in 2015. The linebacking core will be led by senior Zach Gill – who finished third on the team in defensive stops with 57. He’ll be joined by Austin Mayfield (32 tackles), Jake Cornell (26 tackles) and Kyle Walker (24 tackles). Defensive back Peyton Adkins had a pick last season to go along with his 28 tackles.

Final Analysis
It’s been six years since the Potters had fielded a winning team (2010: 8-3). East Liverpool had advanced to week eleven in three of the five years around the turn of the century (1998, 1999, 2002). However, the Potters have averaged 20 points or more in just two of their last thirteen campaigns. The defense has not been able to hold their opposition to less than 21 points (per game) in each of the last eleven years. Coach Ludwig saw his team improve from a winless squad in 2014 to 3 wins last year. Can they improve upon that total this year?
