CLEVELAND (MEDIA GENERAL) — The floor of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, looks like utter chaos on TV.

Arms are waving. Flags are flying. Delegates are bellowing. Lights are flashing.

But the apparent free-for-all is actually a highly organized machine run by a team of Quicken Loans arena employees and RNC staffers.

During the day, while delegates are away mingling at luncheons, a team of workers takes care of the arena – tasks like polishing the stage and vacuuming the plush red carpet.

Their diligence keeps the stage up to the party’s sparkling standards.

The convention’s other secret weapon is a team of eager worker bees, known as pages, that are always on standby to pass out paperwork and run errands.

There are 70 RNC pages who are constantly at the ready, prepping the 2,427 chairs belonging to delegates with essential items like the convention’s official rule book, order of business and lineup of speakers.

During the evening’s main speeches, the pages stand in the wings and rush out with signs between speeches that coincide with the message being delivered onstage.

These staffers are rarely seen but indispensable to making the trains, and messaging, run on time.
