YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – This weekend may be the last opportunity for local boxing fans to watch Alejandro Popo Salinas fight here in the Valley.
The Youngstown native will headline Saturday’s “Championship Night.” It’s a professional card taking place outdoors at the Covelli Centre.
Salinas enters Saturday night’s action with a record of 5-1 with five knockouts. Trainer Jack Loew says it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to find quality opponents willing to fight Salinas on his home turf.
“Between this fight and our Thanksgiving show, it could be a wrap for a kid like that around this area until maybe a big time promotional company brings him back. Like I way saying after our big Thanksgiving show, we’re looking for a major promoter,” Loew said.
“After this fight, we’re going to try and shoot to big promoters hopefully and my dream is Top Rank,” Salinas said. “I want nobody else but Top Rank. And if that dream comes true then all doors open.”
MyYTV will broadcast at least three fights from the event this weekend. The telecast begins at 8PM Saturday night from the Covelli Centre.
