Arrest made in Salem murder

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – Police arrested a man Thursday and charged him in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Terry A. Strosnyder, 49, of Salem, was taken into custody Thursday night. He is charged with murder in the death of 46-year-old Athena Nicolas.

Nicolas was found Sunday morning lying in the backyard of a house on E. Second Street. Strosnyder was lying next to her with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Strosnyder was treated at St. Elizabeth Hospital and was released Thursday. He was immediately taken into custody.

Salem Police Chief Panezott said the drug task force was called in and found a large amount of drugs and weapons in the house. Several cars were towed away from the scene.

A motive in the shooting has not been disclosed.
