CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A race was held Saturday in Canfield in honor of a young girl who died in a car accident.

The third annual 8K run took place at Canfield High School.

Caitlin Yager was a 2012 Cardinal Mooney graduate. She was killed in a car accident in December 2013.

Organizers said the 8K run was an appropriate honor since Caitlin ran cross country at Mooney and at Marietta College, where she was a sophomore at the time of her death.

“We were in an automobile accident Christmas night 2013, and she didn’t survive. So her friends and family got together to raise money for scholarships to Cardinal Mooney, and all the money here in the races goes to that,” said Rich Yager, Caitlin’s father.

Most of the runners said the Caitlin 8K is a little harder than some of the other races in the area.
