(Niles, OH)-The surging Mahoning Valley Scrappers continued their recent hot streak as they earned their fourth straight series win with a 7-2 decision over the Lowell Spinners on Saturday night at Eastwood Field.
The Scrappers would take the early lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Gabriel Mejia started the inning with a base hit. Silento Sayles and Andrew Calica would then both walk to load the bases. Erlin Cerda would follow with a walk to drive in Mejia for the 1-0 lead.
After Lowell tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth, the Scrappers would regain the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Todd Isaacs started the inning with a solo homerun into the Spinners bullpen in leftfield. Alexis Pantoja would then single and come around to score on a two out RBI double by Calica to put the Scrappers back on top 3-1.
Mahoning Valley would get a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Pantoja would single to drive home Gavin Collins with two outs.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Scrappers would put the game away with a three run inning. Calica would start the inning with a single before stealing second and third. A wild pitch would bring Calica home with the first run of the inning. Emmanuel Tapia would then cap the scoring for the Scrappers with a two run double to drive in Cerda and Collins.
Lowell would add a lone run in the top of the ninth inning to put the score to the final of 7-2.
With the win the Scrappers have now won four straight series after starting the season 0-8 in their first eight series played. Mahoning Valley has also now won nine of their last 13 games played.
Aaron Civale started and took a no decision in 3.0 innings of scoreless work. Civale allowed just one hit and struck out three. Tanner Tully (3-0) picked up the win in 4.0 innings of relief work. He allowed just one earned run on three hits. Tully walked two and struck out one. Henry Martinez would then pitch the final 2.0 innings in relief. Martinez allowed one earned run on four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Scrappers (14-21) will now welcome the Connecticut Tigers (20-15) to Eastwood Field for a three game series starting Sunday afternoon at 4:05. Micah Miniard will get the start for the Scrappers.
