NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – Police were called to investigate a suspicious car fire early Tuesday morning.

The car was found burning in a driveway on Robinwood Avenue. A woman told police that she last drove the car at 10:30 p.m. the following night, and her friend noticed it was burning in the driveway around 1:10 a.m.

He called 911 to report a heavy-set man with a red goatee was walking away from the area. He got into a silver Chevy Malibu and headed towards Lake Milton on South Canal Road, he said.

The woman told police that the father of her children had threatened to “smash her face” earlier that day, according to a police report. She had not called police at the time to report the alleged threat.

The Newton Falls Fire Department, Fire Investigative Unit and Trumbull County Fire Scene Investigator were called to investigate the car fire.
