Cleveland holding ‘thank you party’ for Republican National Convention

Events will be held Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31

Cleveland has been preparing a year for the Republican National Convention, and some of those preparations include devising a security plan.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The weekend celebration for community and its support during the Republican National Convention is set to kick-off Friday night in Cleveland.

The Cleveland 2016 Host Committee is hosting the events planned for this weekend. The party will start with food trucks and fun, starting at 6 p.m. Friday on Public Square. Then, a free Cleveland Orchestra’s Star Spangled Spectacular concert will be held at 9 p.m.

The weekend’s main event, the Community Thank You Party, will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.

All events are free and open to the public.

Kid’s activities, including visits with Clifford the Big Red Dog and the Cat in the Hat, face painting and balloon artists. Giveaways, including Mitchell’s Ice Cream.

Snacks for purchase from many of Cleveland’s food trucks   

Live, family-friendly entertainment:

  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.: Megan Zurkey Band
  • 1-2:30 p.m.: Cats on Holiday
  • 2:45-4:15 p.m.: Honeybucket
  • 4:30-6 p.m.: The Feedbacks

Friday, July 29:

  • VeloSano Kickoff Party on Mall B, 4-9 p.m.
  • Cleveland Indians vs. Oakland Athletics, 7:10 p.m. (with post-game fireworks)
  • The Cleveland Orchestra’s 27th Annual FREE Star-Spangled Spectacular Concert on Public Square, 9 p.m. (brought to you by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and sponsored by KeyBank)

Saturday, July 30:

  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame open to public for FREE, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Cleveland 2016 Host Committee’s “A Community Thank You Party” on Public Square, noon – 6 p.m.
  • Cleveland Indians vs. Oakland Athletics, 7:10 p.m.

o   Pregame: Hall of Fame induction ceremony to induct Jim Thome, Albert Belle, Frankie Robinson and Charlie Jamieson.

o   Post-game: Fireworks

Sunday, July 31:

  • Cleveland Indians vs. Oakland Athletics, 1:10 p.m.
