YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – As the race for the White House heads into its final 100 days, local Republicans are taking swipes at Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton ahead of her Youngstown rally on Saturday.
A group of Donald Trump supporters gathered at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman Friday morning.
Bill Clinton visited the mall in August 1992 when he was a presidential candidate, and promised to bring a defense accounting center to the Valley if he was elected. However, the center was never built and the jobs that he promised never materialized either.
Now just a day after Clinton accepted her nomination for president, local Republicans argue that she won’t help the Valley either.
“My concern is that young voters don’t know the history of the Clintons, and it started right here,” said. “Promises made, promises broken. We can’t trust Bill Clinton, we can’t trust Hillary Clinton. That’s why we’re here today.”
Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman Dave Betras called the protest a “desperate attempt to deflect attention” from Trump’s own record.
Betras argues that while the Republican nominee was outsourcing jobs and filing bankruptcies for several of his companies, the Clinton Administration was working to create jobs and balance the budget.
