WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Trumbull County man who called 9-1-1 admitting to shooting and killing his wife pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Ricky Green, 60, will spend 18 years to life in prison.

In January, Green called a 9-1-1 dispatcher, and said that he shot his wife, 56-year-old Janell Green, while she was sitting in a chair, because she had been unfaithful to him. He said he was trying to get a divorce from the woman but added that she “won’t (expletive) leave.”

Tuesday, he told a different story, saying in anger he snapped up the gun and it went off. He was emotional recounting the events.

“I watched her eyes roll back and her last breath. I did right then, I died right then. Forgive me, God,” he said.

Trumbull County Prosecutor Chris Becker said he doubted Green’s new version of what happened in January.

“If this was an accident and happened the way he said it was in court, why didn’t he tell the 911 operator, the deputies? Why didn’t he tell people at the hospital that night?” he said. “This was all fabrication to make himself look better.

Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas Judge Peter Kontos gave Green the maximum sentence in the case.

“I can tell from what you said and what the victim’s family said, this is not a good day for anybody,” he said.

Green didn’t make eye contact with the eight relatives of his late wife who were in court, but he heard from them.

“Rick, nice story and you found God a little too late,” said Janell’s brother, Craig Borsi.
