Austintown checkpoint results in 2 arrests, none for OVI

The checkpoint at 5627 Mahoning Ave. was conducted from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

OVI Checkpoint, DUI

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -The Mahoning County OVI Task Force released results of an OVI checkpoint in Austintown on Saturday, August 6.

The checkpoint at 5627 Mahoning Ave. was conducted from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Officers also stopped vehicles as part of saturation patrols in the area, in support of the checkpoint.

A total of 845 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 18 vehicles were directed into the diversion area for further investigation. Officers on saturation patrol stopped five additional vehicles.

Enforcement activity associated with the checkpoint and saturation patrol was as follows:

  • One citation for speed
  • Two summonses for driving under suspension
  • Two citations for no operator’s license
  • One citation for expired license plates
  • One citation for a juvenile driver with two non-family members in the vehicle
  • One summons for falsification
  • One citation for wrongful entrustment
  • Nine summonses for possession of drugs
  • One arrest on an active warrant
  • One felony arrest for drug abuse

The Task Force said the goal of the checkpoint is to prevent impaired driveways and make roadways safer.

The Task Force is funded by a federal grant, which is administered through the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
