BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 19-year-old Youngstown man is in Mahoning County Jail, accused of stealing a car to get home from St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

A woman called police around 4:30 p.m. Friday to report her car was stolen as she was helping her mother into the hospital. The vehicle was parked in front of the emergency room entrance, and the keys were in the center console. She told police that her cell phone, purse and prescription medication were also in the car when it was taken.

An emergency room employee told police that Andre Edwards had been receiving treatment at the hospital and asked for a ride back to his home on Erie Street. She said Edwards disappeared when the car was reported stolen.

Police found the car abandoned on E. Judson Avenue, near Edwards’ home. Edwards was arrested and charged with grand theft auto after a witness identified him as the man who left in the car.

Edwards was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning on the charge.
