BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The head of Mahoning County’s Democratic Party says if Valley Congressman Bill Johnson can’t renounce Donald Trump, he doesn’t deserve to represent this area.
Democratic Party Chair Dave Betras and several others denounced the Republican presidential nominee for his comments on Tuesday.
Trump suggested that supporters of the Second Amendment may be able to do something to prevent Democrat Hillary Clinton from appointing liberal justices to the U.S. Supreme Court if she is elected.
On Wednesday, Betras and the others called on Congressman Johnson, who has already endorsed Trump, to rescind his support.
“There is no person that looked at what Donald Trump said and doesn’t think he meant for some unstable person to take a shot at Hillary Clinton or the families, the brave men and women that are standing around guarding her,” Betras said.
A spokesman for the Bill Johnson campaign sent a statement, claiming Clinton has her own problems with email servers and the attack on Benghazi.
The spokesman said that if and when Betras withdraws his support for her, then they may be able to talk about Johnson’s endorsement of Trump.
