YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Refund checks are going out to some former and current AT&T customers.
The Federal Communication Commission ordered the company to pay $7.5 million to its customers for allowing scammers to charge for a sham directory assistance service, resulting in third-party charges.
The charges were on customer billing beginning in January 2012. Most charges were around $9.
The FCC found that AT&T received a fee from companies that added the charges to customer’s bills but never provided the services.
AT&T will also pay a $950,000 fine.
Checks to customers will be sent over the next 90 days.
