YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Virginia A. Coates, 93, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Austin Woods Nursing Center.
She was born February 20, 1923 in Youngstown, OH, daughter to the late Ernest and Maude Flick.
Virginia was a graduate from South High School. She married Jack W. Coates on June 25, 1942 and they spent 46 years together before Jack’s passing in 1988. Virginia was employed by Home Savings and Loan and retired in 1988.
Virginia was a member of Western Reserve United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for the enjoyment she found playing cards and she was a member of several card clubs. She also was an avid bowler and participated in numerous leagues, and she was an original member of the Austintown Pony Colt Bowling League.
Left to celebrate Virginia’s life are her children, Gary (Teresa) Coates, Lynn (Emil) Foriska, and Ginger Brest; her grandchildren, Amy, Kristi, Shannon, Randy, Joeli, and Breana; her 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Ned Flick, and her sister, Florence Shood.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Rd.
Funeral services will take place at church on Wednesday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m., with calling hours 1 hour prior.
Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contribution may be made to Crossroads Hospice in memory of Virginia.
