CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – A book with pictures and stories about Campbell is soon to be published.

Campbell Police Officer Joe Pavlansky wrote the book and came up with the idea after noticing Campbell was the only local area without a book.

“Well, Stan, last year when I was looking at a lot of the images of America books and local book stores and on the internet, I noticed Campbell was kind of the only one in the area that didn’t have a book out for it. After speaking to a few people and being pushed by my girlfriend, Antonette, I got a hold of a few people with some pictures and started rolling from there,” Pavlansky said.

There are 190 photos in the book selected from a few thousand Pavlansky saw.

“A few thousand. I really got a lot of help from Florence Galida of the Campbell Historical Society, and then I had people emailing me, calling me from as far down as Columbus, wanting to put pictures in the book. After going through just tons and tons of pictures, I was able to come up with a core 190 that I really thought presented the city in a beautiful, historical light,” Pavlansky said.

Pavlansky does have favorite pictures in the book.

“The one on the cover is probably one of my favorite ones. And any one of the steel mills in there because anyone that looks down by the Mahoning River in Campbell now will see that the old Sheet and Tube is not there. So any time I get the chance to see some old Sheet and Tube pictures, those always end up being my favorite,” Pavlansky said.

A lot of the pictures in the book are of places that are no longer in Campbell. According to Pavlansky, a lot of the buildings have been demolished or fallen on their own over the years. Only one or two of the buildings shown in the book are historical buildings that are still standing.

The book will be available August 22.
