CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – Fires crews from Champion and Bazetta townships and assisting agencies worked to control a fire Thursday morning at a home at the corner of Everett Hull Road and North Park Avenue Extension on the Champion and Bazetta line.
The fire broke out about 5 a.m.
Crews called for mutual aid after the initial tanker ran out of water.
The house was not occupied and crews got the fire under control within an hour.
“Unfortunately, with something that was so involved, it was completely engulfed with fire. We could not make entry. I would not allow the guys to even try to make entry for their safety,” said Champion Fire Chief John Hickey.
Crews think the fire started somewhere in the middle on the first floor. However, there’s no way to tell exactly how it started since the Trumbull County Fire Investigation Unit ruled its cause as undetermined.
Earlier on Thursday, Hickey said they don’t suspect foul play.
According to the Trumbull County Auditor, the house is owned by Mark and Wendy Davidson. They said they bought the house earlier in August to turn it into a rental property, and were already remodeling it.
Neighbors rushed to their home, knocked on the door and told them their house down the street was on fire.
