YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police say an accused thief was shot and later arrested after breaking into a car near McGuffey Road.
Around midnight Thursday, a man told police he was walking to his car when he noticed broken glass on the ground. He said a man then appeared behind him with a knife and threatened to kill him.
He told police he then fired three shots at the suspect, who grabbed an iPhone he dropped during the shooting and ran from the area.
Officers spotted a man matching the description of the suspect, 29-year-old Rashun Tennant, who they said was bleeding from his head with a possible gunshot wound. Tennant told police that he was injured from “playing football with two females,” according to a police report.
He was identified as the man with the knife by two witnesses, police said.
Tennant was charged with aggravated robbery, felonious assault and three counts of theft from a motor vehicle and taken to Mahoning County Jail.
Police said several cars in the area had broken windows. A mask was found stuffed in the exhaust pipe of one of the cars. Police said officers were unable to find the knife or shell casings in the area.
