James F. Nicolaus, Warren, Ohio - obit

WARREN, Ohio – James F. Nicolaus, 82, of Warren, passed away with his family by his side, Friday morning, August 19, 2016, at his residence.

He was born August 20, 1933 in Warren, a son of Reinholt and Katherine (Bosh) Nicolaus.

He attended Bazetta schools and was employed as a crane operator for the former Grinnell foundry in Warren for 17 years. He then worked as a mold operator for Packard Electric Corp. for 22 years before retiring in 1995.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1953-55.

James married the former Donna Jean Nicholas on September 5, 1953. They’ve shared almost 63 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren. He enjoyed gardening, going to horse races, playing the lottery, and he was very handy, always ready to help anybody with a project.

Besides his wife, James is survived by three children; Deborah (Thomas) Szykulski, James (Debbie) Nicolaus, Jr., and Barbara Nicolaus, all of Warren. He also leaves behind a sister, Beatrice (William) Pahon, of Cortland; three grandchildren; Daniel DeGuire, of Tampa, Florida; Justin (Meredith) DeGuire, of Strongsville; and Kate Szykulski, of Columbus; and three great grandchildren; Aidan, Anne, and Nicolaus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; William and Edward Nicolaus.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren, with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.

Friends may call from noon to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

James will be laid to rest with full military honors at Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions be made to SouthernCare Hospice, in James’s memory.
