EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – Police in East Liverpool are still trying to figure out the events that led to the death of a woman over the weekend.

Police say a 51-year-old Patricia Flaherty was killed Sunday evening on Dresden Avenue, near the Cove Lounge, when she was hit by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man. The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified, but police said there was an ongoing dispute between Flaherty and the suspect.

At least three different people called 911 to report that a woman had been run down on Dresden Avenue Monday night, including the woman’s daughter, but police said witness reports don’t match up. So the city police asked a state expert for help.

“Right now, we have an accident reconstructionist doing the scene. He’s going to, hopefully, help us determine whether the car swerved away or swerved into the victim,” East Liverpool Police Chief John Lane said.

The woman was struck and killed in front of her children.

“The whole family was there. They knew him, they knew where he lived at,” Lane said of the driver.

That man left the scene of the crash and went to the police department.

Lane said the woman and the driver had been fighting for the last month.

This story is corrected to show Flaherty’s age. Police had said previously that she was 46.
