Niles Fire Department to receive over $1 million in federal funds

The funding comes from FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grants and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The Niles Fire Department will be receiving over a million dollars in federal funds to hire and retain firefighters.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding the department with $1,007,352.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown made the announcement Tuesday.

“Firefighters keep our communities safe and provide peace of mind for families during emergencies,” he said. “This award will help hire more first responders in Niles to protect families and homes from fire hazards.”

The funding comes from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program.
