SLIPPERY ROCK, TWP. (WKBN) – Two pets died in a farm house fire in Slippery Rock Township on Monday morning.

Fourteen fire departments were called out to put out the fire, which started at the home in the 300 block of Walnut Street. Slippery Rock Fire Chief George Johnson said the roof collapsed when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Sarah Aiken, 73, was the only person home at the time, along with her cat and dog. The pets both died in the fire.

Aiken’s 17-year-old grandson also lives in the home, but he was at school when the fire broke out.

Aiken lived in the home for more than 50 years.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The American Red Cross is helping the family and have contacted Aiken’s daughter, who lives in Florida.
