WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man and woman from Garrettsville were arrested after police say they overdosed at a Warren Walgreens while they had a toddler with them.
Officers were called to the store on Market Street Monday for a report of a man slumped over in a car in the parking lot. Another caller reported that a woman came out of the store’s bathroom with a child and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Police said 31-year-old Anthony Reighard was unresponsive and drooling in a Ford Focus. After giving him a sternum rub, police said Reighard started to respond.
He told police he had smoked marijuana and had some in his pocket. Police said the marijuana was found, along with a syringe and metal spoon with suspected heroin residue.
The woman, 32-year-old Nicole McCarthy, was stopped in the store with the child and questioned. She also told police that she smoked marijuana and has health issues, according to a police report.
Police said during questioning in the police cruiser, McCarthy began to pass out. She was given Narcan, an opioid-reversal drug and taken to the hospital with Reighard.
Children Services was called to take emergency custody of the one-year-old child.
Reighard and McCarthy were later arrested and taken to Trumbull County Jail on child endangering and drug charges.
