Cynthia Bland was sentenced to two years probation on Tuesday

A woman convicted of stabbing a man with a steak knife learned her sentence in a Youngstown courtroom Tuesday morning.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman convicted of stabbing a man with a steak knife learned her sentence in a Youngstown courtroom Tuesday morning.

Cynthia Bland will spend two years on probation. The sentence came after a statement from the victim, who said the judge should not give Bland jail time.

“I do believe Ms. Bland has some issues that she needs to deal with, like anger management, drug and alcohol problems, and I do believe that probation with some restrictions might be better for her than going back behind bars,” he said.

Police said Bland stabbed the man at her home on Campbell Street in April after an argument.

The victim told police that Bland accused him of cheating on her earlier in the day, and when he went to her house to get some chicken that he left there, Bland stabbed him in the arm with a 4-inch steak knife.

The man told the judge that he and Bland had been friends for eight years and that he was frustrated by her actions but said he was no longer angry. The judge cautioned Bland about her relationship with the victim, saying they were like “fire and water” and urged her to continue with alcohol treatment.
