MESOPOTAMIA, Ohio (WKBN) – State Route 87 has reopened after a van and pickup collided early Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. between Noble Lane and Combs Road.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said Shane Hall, 30, of Rootstown, was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound on Route 87 when he was struck by a vehicle that went left of center. The driver of that vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Ram van, was identified as 30-year-old Kenny Brown, of Orwell.
Highway Patrol said Hall then traveled off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox. Brown continued east and traveled off the left side of the road, striking a ditch and utility pole.
The road was closed for a short time due to heavy debris.
Neither Hall nor Brown were wearing seatbelts, according to investigators.
Hall was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital in Cleveland. Brown was taken to Geauga Medical Center.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
The road was shut down for about an hour as crews worked to clear up heavy debris.
Highway Patrol is investigating.
