Mary Ruth Evans, Warren, Ohio - obit

WARREN, Ohio – Mary Ruth Evans, 91, of Warren, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Gillette Nursing Home.

She was born July 29, 1925, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Carl E. and Mary (Jones) Turner.

She was employed by Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania as a Supervisor of Operators for two years following high school graduation. Later on, she was employed by Griswold’s-Strouss’s-Kaufmann’s as a PBX operator and sales associate with 24 years of service.

She had several hobbies and pastimes, but her favorite was baking. She found it to be therapeutic.

She volunteered for numerous community and charitable organizations. Was a past member of Eastern Star and active member of the Warren Rebekah Lodge for over 60 years in which she held several offices including Trustee, Financial Secretary and Past Noble Grand. She has been a long-time, active member of McKinley Community Church for over 50 years and Ladies Aid. She held the position of Deaconess for the church and Treasurer of Ladies Aid.

Surviving are her daughter, Lynn Lepola, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandson, Kevin Lepola, Kodiak, Alaska; granddaughters, Nikki Graham, Seattle, Washington and Aubrey Evans, Lakewood, Ohio; four great grandsons; two great granddaughters and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Geo F. Evans; a son, Carl T. Evans; grandson, Ian Evans; sisters, Cecilia Jane Jones and Frances Jeanne Rose; parents, Carl E. and Mary (Jones) Turner.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren, Ohio, where Rev. John Griffith will officiate.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to McKinley Community Church, 1524 Elm Rd., Warren, Ohio 44483.
