WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police arrested a Warren man who they said led officers on a chase while gripping a can of beer.
Roy Collins, 55, is charged with obstructing official business and falsification.
The Warren officer said he saw Collins riding a bicycle on Clarence Street just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. He recognized Collins because there was a warrant out for his arrest, according to a police report.
He followed Collins to the Big Apple Supermarket on Youngstown Road, and waited for him to exit the store. When he did, the officer called his name.
Collins said that wasn’t his name, and told the officer he was Ron Wilson, according to the police report. The officer said Collins then dropped his bike and ran.
He chased Collins until he stopped in an abandoned lot on Kenilworth Avenue. Collins started digging into his pants pocket and the officer asked if he had a gun, according to the police report.
The officer claimed Collins pulled out a can of beer and started running again.
Police said he ran into a fence, flipping over it onto his head. They said he got up and continued running, still holding onto the beer, as several officers chased him at this point.
Officers eventually handcuffed him near Homewood Avenue.
Collins is being held at Trumbull County Jail on a probation violation.
