Accident shuts down portion of Route 422 in Girard

The driver of the SUV told police he was distracted when he crashed into the pole

An SUV crashed into a pole in Girard.

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Police have opened all lanes of traffic on Route 422 in Girard following an accident late Tuesday night.

The lanes re-opened at 7 a.m. Wednesday after being partially closed since about 11 p.m. following an accident in front of Vallourec Star.

At one point the road was completely closed for several hours.

The driver of an SUV hit a utility pole, downing wires.

Crews have been working through the night to clear the accident and repair the downed lines and pole.

The driver sustained some scratches and bruises. He was charged with failure to control.
