AKRON, Ohio – Emmett Jones, 92, of Akron, formerly of Youngstown, departed this life Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his residence.
He was born April 22, 1924, in Hartwell, Georgia, the son of Mose and Nancy Scott Jones.
Mr. Jones was employed with Republic Steel Corp/LTV Steel Corp. for forty years, working in the Blast Furnace, before retiring in 1990.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army, during World War II, as a T5, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal WW II.
He leaves to mourn four sons, Tim (Maxine) Jones of Niles, Eric (Celeste) Jones of Suffolk VA, Darryl Jones of Columbus and Kurt (Yolanda) Jones of Akron; two daughters, Ms. Gwen Edwards of Struthers and Ms. Valencia Jones of Campbell; one sister, Mrs. Katherine (Willie) Barnett of Youngstown; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Bernice McCray Jones and Sharlene Kerns Jones; two daughters, Mrs. Vickie Benton and Ms. Toni Kerns; one brother, six sisters and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Gospel Temple Baptist Church.
Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon.
Burial will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
