NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – After suffering through two straight setbacks, Springfield notched their second victory of the season by rallying and eventually holding off a Western Reserve score at the end to post a 28-26 win.
Up by 8 in the fourth quarter, Western Reserve scored with 1:42 left on a Wyatt Larimer 42-yard touchdown reception from Dominic Velasquez. Down by 2, the Blue Devils tried a pass play on a two-point try which was denied.
Springfield gained just 209 yards on 44 offensive plays. However, the Tigers forced three turnovers and were only penalized 3 times compared to 7 for Reserve. Luke Snyder led the Tigers with 69 yards rushing on 13 carries. Austin Trebella had 60 while Frankie Centofanti and Brannon Brungard had 47 and 31 rushing yards respectively.
Western Reserve falls to 1-3. Last year, the Blue Devils finished with an 8-3 mark. Dominic Velasquez threw for 120 yards on 6 of 12 passing (2 TDs). Wyatt Larimer also completed 3 of 4 for 31 yards. Larimer had a big game catching the football as he hauled in 6 passes for 120 yards (2 TDs). Jack Cappabianca scored once through the air and once on the ground. Cappabianca finished with a team-high 68 yards rushing. Austin Seifert has compiled back-to-back 47 yard games on the ground.
