HUBBARD, Ohio – There will be services held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for James W. Wylie, age 71, of Hubbard who passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.
Jim was born April 21, 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of James R. & Nora Harris Wylie.
At a young age Jim enlisted in the Army and served with the 538 Division of Heavy Equipment during the Vietnam War. It was during this time, he met his wife of 51 years, the former Marice Bickett.
He was heavy equipment operator for many years retiring in 2004, and was a member of Operating Engineer’s Local 66.
Jim attended the First Baptist Church of Hubbard.
Jim loved being around people and as a result was a member of many organizations including; Hubbard VFW Post 3767, Hubbard Lions Club, Hello Brothers, American Legion in Wilcox, Pennsylvania, Sportsman Club of Wilcox, Pennsylvania, St. Mary’s Snowmobile Club, Western Star Masonic Lodge #21 of Youngstown, Hubbard VFW Golf League and Army Navy Garrison 360.
Jim loved to be outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, hunting, fishing, golfing, and sitting by “his” pond. He was the ultimate family man and would go out of his way to help his children and grandchildren. A father to only three but a father figure and friend to so many of his children’s friends.
Jim was always there to lend a helping hand and he did it with a smile on his face. He touched most everyone he met and left his footprint on many people’s hearts. He had a way of making even casual strangers his friends.
When asked, how are you doing? He would respond “any better than this, it’d be wonderful.”
He will be sadly missed by his family; his wife the former Marice Bickett whom he married February 27, 1965; his sons James R. (Joanne) Wylie, Michael W. (Gina) Wylie both of Hubbard, his daughter Melissa A. (Bob) Toot of Cortland, and seven grandchildren Jenna, Justine, Brian, Kayla, Jake, Ethan and Brandon.
He also leaves his sister Judy (Bert) Paulk of Hubbard, and many nieces and nephews and too many friends to list.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Bob Ebert.
