Charlie Lee Newsom, Lowellville, Ohio - obit

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio – Funeral services will be held Friday, September 23 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Parish, with Rev. Kevin Peters officiating, for Charlie Lee Newsom, 90, who passed away early Monday morning, September 19.

Charlie was born July 7, 1926, in Cordele, Georgia, the son of John D. and Althie L. Lawhorn Newsom.

Charlie had a long and decorated career in the US Military for 20+ years, as a Master Sargent E7 in the US Army, where he served in France during WWII, as well as serving in the Korean War. He traveled extensively throughout his Army career, having resided in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Arkansas, New Mexico and Germany.
In addition to his military service, Charlie worked for 17 years at Truscon Door as a welder.

He was a member of St. Angela Merici Parish.

Charlie’s wife, the former Edith Barbara Arsenault, whom he married April 18, 1949, passed away January 26, 2015.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his son, Charles Lee Newsom of Warren; his daughters, Rosemary Ann (Charlie) Reynolds of Virginia and Catherine Ann (Chris) Rodgers of Mercer, his sisters, Myrtle (Marshall) Parsons of Plant City, Florida and Dorothy (Marshall) Holloway of Moultrie, Georgia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Besides his wife, Edith and his parents; he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Renew, John Elton Renew, Grady Whitley Lawhorn, Jr; and Joe Bob Lawhorn.

The Newsom family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday morning, September 23, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
