KINSMAN, Ohio – Gerald L. Richards, Sr., age 87, of Kinsman, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at his home.
He was born August 18, 1929, in Youngstown,Ohio, a son of Clifford Richards and Hazel Richards Weidner.
Formerly of Liberty, Ohio, Mr. Richards had been a resident of Kinsman for the past 45 years.
He was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School and he was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
He was employed for 32 years for U.S. Steel in McDonald, Ohio, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Richards served as a volunteer from 1958 until 1966 for the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Harry Lees American Legion Post #506 in Kinsman and the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle; and he loved his Farmall tractors. He also loved the outdoors and retirement on the farm.
Mr. Richards is survived by two sons, Fred (Stephanie) Richards of Scottown, Ohio, and Dave (Julie) Richards of Fowler Township, Ohio; his daughter, Carol (Mike) Huggins of Summerville, South Carolina; his 5 grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Richards, Kyle Richards, and Jordan and Aaron Huggins and 2 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Gerald L. Richards, Jr. in 1984.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio.
