MCDONALD, Ohio – Ray Garland, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Briarfield Rehab Facility in Austintown, following a battle with CHF.
Born March 24, 1933, in Evansville; he was the son of Paul and Bessie (John).
He graduated from Mineral Ridge High School, and then served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Ray retired from RMI after 40 plus years in the Sonic Testing Department. In his earlier years, he also drove truck and delivered water for his family’s business. He served as a Trustee for Weathersfield Township for several years; he owned and operated Garland Supply.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and willing to crack a joke just to make you smile.
Ray was a sincere and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (McCormick), with whom he enjoyed life “down on the farm”; children: Patricia Proud, Ray (Robin) Garland, Tammy (John) Buzzelli, John (Vicki) Garland, and daughter-in-law Cinde Garland; with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, he leaves his loving grandchildren: Lauren, Lindsay, Larissa, Angela, Brandon, Nichole, Stephanie, Jesse, Chase, Cassie, Callie, Taylor, and Lucas; great-grandchildren: Haley, Faith, Austin, Noah, Grady, Sloane, Elena, and Lia.
Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son William, brothers: Kay and Ronald Garland, and sister, Naomi Wilson.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
