Series Note: After not meeting for nearly 30 years, this marks the second meeting in as many years between the Spartans and the Cardinals.

Last Meeting: Boardman’s Mario Graziani scored on a 40-yard touchdown scamper to break the scoreless tie in the third quarter. Spartan kicker Adam Deely booted through a 35-yard field goal less than 3 minutes later to secure a 10-0 win for Boardman. The defense held Canfield to less than 75 yards of total offense.

Game Notes: Boardman has lost three games in a row following their 21-6 loss last Friday to Perry. The Spartans were unable to slow down the Panthers’ ground attack as they churned out 272 yards rushing. In the loss, Mike O’Horo (41 rushing yards) completed 14 of 26 passes for 118 yards including a third quarter touchdown toss to Travis Koontz. The aforementioned Koontz finished the contest with 4 catches for 37 yards. Mike Melewski led Boardman with 5 receptions and 43 yards. Kody Adu-Poku led the Spartans’ ground attack with 43 yards.

During their first two games (against East and Mooney), the Spartans averaged 34.5 points. However, over the last three weeks, Boardman has only been able to score a total of 20 points (6.7 average).

In Boardman’s last four road games, each of their contests have been decided by 4 points or less. They’ve posted a 2-2 record during that stretch.

This past Friday, Canfield saw their three-game winning streak snapped by Struthers (38-21). The Cardinals struggled to stop the Wildcats, as they tallied over 400-yards of total offense – 300 of those yards were by the way of the ground game.

During their three-game win streak, the Cardinals scored 43.3 points per game and only allowed 11.7 points. In their two losses, Canfield was outscored by an average 29.5 to 19.

Canfield has won six of their last seven at home.
