YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police said he went into Roberto’s Italian Ristorante with a foot-long hunting knife.
Police said Nasser Altamimi was warned not to come into the restaurant with weapons after employees said he came in with a machete the previous night. Altamimi agreed to give pepper spray to an employee to hold while he was at the bar Sunday.
A police officer working security at the restaurant said he became suspicious of Altamimi, who he said smelled of marijuana and appeared to have a knife sheath coming out of the bottom of his coat. Police found the 12-inch weapon during a pat down, and Altamimi also admitted to having a half smoked blunt of marijuana in his pocket.
Altamini told police that he needed the knife for protection.
He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, having weapons under disability and drug abuse and was taken to Mahoning County Jail, where he was being held on Monday.
Police said they are also investigating reports that Altamimi may have an expired student visa.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled at 9:15 a.m. October 14 in Youngstown Municipal Court.
