YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 13-year-old Volney Rogers Middle School student was charged with disorderly conduct and felonious assault after police said he flipped a teacher onto the floor, causing head injuries.

Police said teacher Zane Pappas was thrown to the floor after he tried to break up a fight between two students on Tuesday morning. Police said Pappas was bleeding from his head and appeared to be dazed and disoriented from his injuries when officers arrived at the school.

Pappas told police that he was trying to separate two boys from fighting when one of the boys said, “Don’t get between us old man or you will get hurt.” He said the boy tried to rush around him and then flipped him to the floor.

Pappas was taken to the emergency room at St. Elizabeth Hospital for his injuries.

The teen was arrested and taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center and later released to a parent.
