NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN/AP) – Police in New Castle are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect accused in a string of crimes.
Police attempted to serve an arrest warrant Thursday for Ernest Chapman, 24, of Detroit when he took off and led them on a chase.
Instead, New Castle police Chief Robert Salem says Chapman put a gun to a friend’s head and made him drive away. After the car crashed, Chapman ran into the woods.
Officers searched for Chapman and put nearby schools on lockdown while they combed the neighborhood but didn’t find him. They learned later that Chapman was picked up by someone in a silver sedan.
A search of Chapman’s home uncovered $10,000 in cash, heroin and cellular phones.
Chapman is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Chapman’s whereabouts is asked to call New Castle Police at (724) 656-3570.
