Howland’s defense posts 3rd shutout of the year

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Tigers improve to 4-2 after their 42-0 win over East tonight. Howland has posted a shutout in three of their last four games.

Howland’s defense forced 4 turnovers and held the Panthers to just 109 yards of total offense (49 rushing). The Tigers’ offense passed for 97 yards and ran for 172 stripes as a team. The ground game was led by Tyriq Ellis, who gained 93 yards on 11 carries. Ellis also scored his 6th rushing touchdown and his fifth in the last four games. Jackson Deemer crossed the goal line twice. Entering tonight’s contest, Deemer had only carried the ball once all year. Quarterback Samari Dean completed 5 for 5 as he threw for 97 yards. Victor Williams was Dean’s main target as he caught the lone touchdown of the game and snagged 3 passes for 80 yards.

East’s Mike Lawrence connected on 2 of 4 passing for 20 yards. Lawrence also gained 5.3 yards per rush (10 rushes, 53 yards). Zion Gilmore completed 3 passes for 40 yards. Carlos Jones caught a pass for 24 yards. Mike Ramey hauled in two passes for 16 yards.
