Police identify men killed by train in East Palestine

The victims were 26-year-old Justin Moreno and 33-year-old James Belt

Two people were killed in East Palestine, Ohio after they were hit by a train.

EAST PALESTINE, Pa. (WKBN)- East Palestine Police have identified two men who were struck and killed by a train on Thursday.

The victims were 26-year-old Justin Moreno and 33-year-old James Belt.

Police said Moreno’s address is listed in Pueblo, Colorado, but he had been staying in East Palestine for the past month. Belt is an East Palestine resident.

Police said the men were acquaintances who were known to jump trains from destination to destination. They are still waiting on a toxicology report but believe their deaths were accidental and not suicides.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m. on train tracks at the James Street crossing, near the HR Evans Steel Company.

East Palestine Fire Chief Joshua Brown said the train was traveling about 47 miles per hour and was pulling 81 cars. All of the lights and security measures around the train were working at the time of the crash, according to police.
