Robert James Crew, Austintown, Ohio – obit

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Robert James Crew, 87, passed away Friday evening, September 30, 2016, in Vista Care Center at the Ridge, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Bob was born September 21, 1929, in Cleveland, the son of Robert L. and Helen (Lube) Crew.

He retired in 1997 form Cold Metal Products as a Millwright. Bob had also worked Polson Rubber Company in Garrettsville.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was a volunteer in maintenance around the church. Bob was also a member of AARP in Austintown, the Eastern Star Sunrise Chapter in Girard and he was a Master Mason with the Charity Lodge F & AM #530.

His hobbies included square dancing in Nelson Township, reading, and archaeology. He also enjoyed boating, water skiing and playing cards, especially the game of Hearts. Bob was a regular handyman and loved working on projects around the house and the church.

He leaves his wife of forty-six years, the former Sandy Ribble, whom he married December 6, 1969; three children, Christine (John) Hanna of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Jean (Bill) Bieltz of Hagerstown, Maryland and Jeff (Kathryn) Crew of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Wamer.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 4, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. followed by services by the Sunrise Eastern Star and the Charity Masonic Lodge at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5 at Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Rd., Austintown.
