YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown man was shot in the chest just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Around 12:40 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting on North Evanston Avenue in Youngstown.

According to the police report, 34-year-old Jason Tobin was attempting to get his car back from 27-year-old Jeffrey Martin, resulting in an argument. It then stated that Martin hit Tobin with a handgun, which then resulted with Tobin shooting Martin and then hiding his gun in the backyard of a house on North Bon Air Avenue.

While police were investigating, Martin’s girlfriend gave them the description of Tobin’s car. Police were then called to a North Bon Air house and found the gun under a pile of leaves in the backyard. Tobin was then taken into custody.

Tobin later admitted to shooting Martin and was charged with felonious assault, according to the report.

Martin was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, where he is currently recovering.
