Police say one person ran a vehicle during a traffic stop in Austintown Monday afternoon.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police say a man ran from a vehicle during a traffic stop in Austintown Monday afternoon and was involved in a fight with an officer.

Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop near State Route 46 and Interstate 80 for a moving violation just before noon.

Troopers said the inside of the car smelled like marijuana.

Four people were in the car, and when officers began patting down one of the passengers, he ran away from troopers.

The man, who was eventually arrested a short distance later near a drainage culvert, was involved in a scuffle which sent an officer to the hospital with minor injuries. That officer was back to work on Tuesday.

Highway Patrol is not yet releasing the suspect’s name because the investigation is ongoing. Charges are pending.

Investigators said they found a “large amount” of narcotics in the car, which they sent in for testing.
