WARREN, Ohio – Sam Wilson, 94, of 1320 Mahoning Avenue SW, Warren, departed this life Monday, October 3, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. at Community Skilled Nursing Center of natural causes.
He was born March 21, 1922 in Belmont, Alabama, the son of Sam Wilson, Sr. and Julia Armstead, residing in the area for 70 years.
Mr. Wilson was employed with Labors International Union of North America Local 935 for 25 years as a Construction Worker, before retiring in 1976. He also worked for Republic Steel Corp.
He enjoyed fishing and baseball and was a 1940 graduate of Belmont Alabama High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946, fighting in central Europe during World War II, receiving the World War II and European African Middle Eastern Service medals.
He leaves to mourn three sons, Samuel Lee Wilson and Byron (Lynn) Wilson both Warren and I.Z. Wilson of Ellenwood, Georgia; four daughters, Ms. Julia Wilson of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Ms. Alfreda Wilson, Ms. Cheary Wilson-McElroy and Ms. Dale Armstrong all of Warren; one stepson, Jordan Sanders, Jr. of New York, New York; one sister, Ms. Sadie Williams of Baltimore, Maryland; 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one stepdaughter, Ms. Hilein Sanders.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hoyt Street Flouring Ministries.
Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 1631 Sunset Drive N.E., the home of his daughter, Cheary Wilson-McElroy.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
