CORTLAND, Ohio (WKNB) – Demolition began Tuesday morning on a project to build new restroom facilities at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

The work is part of a plan to upgrade the facilities that have been in place for nearly 40 years.

Trumbull County Commissioner Dan Polivka, who knows something about heavy machinery from his past job, removed the first bricks from the old building himself.

The $200,000 project will include a family room, changing station, new showers and toilets.

“Our Grants Department was able to get a $50,000 grant to help, and the commissioners added some money, and the Fair Board had a CD they put toward it that they’ve been saving money to put in,” said Polivka.

The project is expected to be complete before fair time next year.
