CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – There’s a good chance an historical Canfield house, that some suggested needed demolished, will be saved.
Frank and Stacy Davidson are close to finalizing a deal to buy the Judson Canfield house at 275 N. Broad St. across from St. Michael Church, and seven acres around it.
“I have fallen in love with the house,” Stacy said. “I go there almost every day and walk around, and I don’t even own it yet.”
The house, which is dilapidated and needs major renovations, first made news in mid-March. A developer suggested buying the property, tearing down the house and building 20 new homes.
Canfield’s Design Review Committee denied a request to demolish the house, and the developer eventually backed out of the project.
The Davidsons, who own Davidson’s Restaurant in Cornersburg, stepped in.
“We’d been looking to buy an old farmhouse,” Stacy said. “We were looking in Columbiana County, and then this came along.”
The deal is not done yet and some dates still need to be negotiated, but she hopes to have it finalized next week. While Stacy would not say what they were paying for the house, she says she can’t wait to get started on the renovations.
