Steps were taken Wednesday to set u a new trial for triple murder suspect Robert Seman.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The trial judge, prosecutors and attorneys gathered Wednesday in a Mahoning County courtroom to take the first steps in a new trial for triple murder suspect Robert Seman.

The hearing in Judge Maureen Sweeney’s courtroom last only a few minutes and determined the start of the new trial, which will get underway in early February.

New jurors will have to be selected and that process will begin December 7 when 500 names will be drawn from a jury pool. The new panel should be seated the week of February 6.

Judge Sweeney declared a mistrial in the case in September because of comments made by some of the jurors that were deemed inappropriate about their opinions in the case.

Defense attorneys said members of the prospective pool of jurors had been telling others about the case and that they were revealing opinions about guilt and innocence and other facts in the case.

Seman is charged with setting the house fire that killed 10-year-old Corinne Gump and her grandparents in March of last year. Corinne Gump was set to testify in court the following day in connection to rape charges against Seman.

Another pretrial hearing in the new case is set for November 7.
