Strange circumstances surround vehicle fire in Southington

The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office is investigating

An abandoned SUV caught fire on Barclay Messerly Road in Southington Twp., Ohio.

SOUTHINGTON TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – An SUV that was abandoned on the road caught fire early Thursday morning.

Police and firefighters were called about 4 a.m. to Barclay-Messerly Road where they found an abandoned Dodge Durango.

When crews arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Police said there was no evidence of an accident at the scene and that the vehicle had just been purchased last month.

It took about 45 minutes to put the fire out.

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
