YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The accused ringleader of a fraudulent sports memorabilia ring and two others accused of being involved have been named in a 22-count indictment.
Cliff Panezich is charged with one count of telecommunications fraud and aggravated theft and three counts of forgery after he turned down a plea deal offered by prosecutors.
Also indicted are Jason Moore and Craig McCormick, who investigators say were involved in the sale of the phony items on eBay — a scam they say made the group millions.
Others, including Panezich’s mother, Rose, have been sentenced for their role in the crime.
According to prosecutors, Rose lied to them while being interviewed Wednesday night. Because she broke the conditions of her probation by failing to give truthful testimony, a violation will be filed Friday.
