A man saved 2 children from a fire at an apartment complex in New Castle.

NEW CASTLE, PA (WKBN) –  A man saved two children from a fire at an apartment complex in New Castle Saturday morning.

He only suffered a burn on his left hand, but now, two families are without a home.

Fire departments were called to 202 West Lincoln Avenue around 10:15 a.m. for reports of a fire.

Firefighters at the scene said that a man was watching a 4-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl when he went downstairs to put in laundry. While he was downstairs, he heard a lot of noise upstairs and saw flames.

He called emergency crews and saved both of the children from the fire, which started in an upstairs bedroom.

Due to smoke and fire damage, the apartment is unlivable for the family of four.

The neighboring apartment was saved from the fire, but due to water damage, that family has been displaced as well.

The Red Cross was called out to help those affected.

The cause of that fire is under investigation.
